Virtual Field Trips

The library has new virtual field trip offerings for K-12th grade students! See the list below to learn more about each offering and request a field trip for your students through the Request a Virtual Field Trip form.

Calling all library explorers! This virtual series will teach students in Kindergarten through Second Grade about the many resources they can find in the Children’s Library, where to find them, and how to use them! Students will be able to expertly make their way around their local library branch following one of these virtual lessons.

Help OCLS library worker, Squirt the Orange, explore the library and shelve his cart of books! Students will learn about the different areas of the library, how to sort titles alphabetically and how to correctly identify board books, picture books, and non-fiction books based on their unique characteristics.

Lesson Duration: 30 – 45 Minutes

Help OCLS library worker, Squirt the Orange, explore the library to identify different types of books and learn how to use them to answer research questions! Students will learn how to identify and catalog biographies, picture books, and non-fiction books based on their unique characteristics and learn how they can be used to gather information!

    • Identifying what information that can be found in different types of books
    • Learning to catalog non-fiction titles

Help OCLS library worker, Squirt the Orange, explore the library and assist students with their research projects! Students will learn how to use the library’s online catalog to identify and sort through different types of sources and determine which best support different research topics!

    • Analyzing sources to determine which would best support a given research topic

Lesson Duration: 30 – 45 Minutes

The Overdue Ogres are causing chaos in the library catalog! Help OCLS library worker, Squirt the Orange, journey through the library’s interwebs, face down the Overdue Ogres and restore order to cyberspace! This standards-aligned, virtual program geared toward third through fifth grade will teach students about the resources and offerings available through the library’s website. Students will be able to expertly navigate the library’s digital resources to find books, classes, and study tools upon completion of this quest!

All aboard the International Space Station! Help library worker, Squirt the Orange, make his way to and around the International Space Station. Learn how to find and use the library’s STEM resources as you explore the ISS and get Squirt back home safely!

Calling all gumshoes! Have your students showcase their sleuthing skills by diving into the digital dimension and saving the librarian! Orange County Public School students will learn how to access and utilize their OCLS virtual library cards and its resources.
