The children’s area at the Horizon West Branch features a stunning MAD Creative Fabrication (MAD FAB) designed mural, sensory wall, and interactive activities that immerse families in a vibrant Florida scrub habitat. Designed from the perspective of a tiny creature, the space is brought to life with oversized floral light fixtures, creating the feeling of exploring a larger-than-life natural world.
At the center of the experience is the rare Blue Calamintha bee, whose story unfolds through colorful wall art, sensory elements, and a striking honeycomb structure that highlights the importance of pollinators in Florida’s ecosystems. Families can also discover other native species, including the Florida scrub-jay and gopher tortoise, showcased throughout the artwork.
The hands-on installations encourage exploration and learning through textures and activities inspired by the blue bee’s lifecycle. With a palette of sandy neutrals, sky blues, and lush greens, the space offers a warm, welcoming environment where children can learn, play, and connect with Florida’s unique natural heritage.
