The Orange County Library System offers the Talking Books program to residents of Orange County who cannot easily use printed materials, including those who are visually impaired, have a reading disability, or unable to use print material due to a physical disability. A talking book is the complete text of a printed book recorded on a USB cartridge including mysteries, romances, science fiction, best sellers, children’s literature, history, biography, politics and consumer information plus recordings of magazines. A special digital book player is provided free for the user. Both the player and the talking books are mailed directly to the patron. Downloadable books and books in Braille are also available through the Talking Books program.

The Orange County Library System provides the Talking Books service free for the user, including free delivery and return of machines and materials through the mail. The Florida Division of Blind Services and the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (Library of Congress), provide the equipment and produce the audio and Braille books, more than 1,700 each year. Titles can be selected from catalogs sent to users six times per year and the NLS catalog. To learn more about the program and apply online, please visit the NLS site.
