You BEE-long at the Library During National Library Week

Bee buzzing from honey comb to orange slice with "You bee-long at the Library" "National Library Week, April 19-25"

A week-long library celebration is swiftly buzzing our way, and we want you to be a part of it! Every year, during National Library Week, we celebrate the power of libraries in transforming lives and strengthening communities across the country. Here at Orange County Library System, it’s a sweet opportunity for us to celebrate both our staff and you.

To celebrate with us, make sure to visit your closest library branch, between Sunday, April 19 and Saturday, April 25, to get your very own limited-edition “You Bee-long at the Library” sticker.

Know anyone who needs a library card? During National Library Week, anyone who signs up for a new card in-person at any of our 15 locations will receive a free prize-pack, which includes a pair of  WonderWorks tickets and a free treat from Jeremiah’s Italian Ice; available while supplies last.

Once you’re equipped with your library card, limited-edition sticker, and favorite read, you’re ready to join in on the National Library Week celebrations:

  • The fun kicks off on Monday, April 20 with Right to Read Day; aday when readers, advocates, and fans of the library can take action to protect, defend, and celebrate the right to read. Join staff at the North Orange branch as they celebrate the day Creating Accordion Books, the perfect keepsake or gift to adorn your bookshelf!
  • Then, on Tuesday, April 21, celebrate National Library Workers Day alongside staff, administrators and Friends. Visit our Fairview Shores branch and join in on the fun as our staff members host Pirates in Wonderland, a whimsical storytime adventure down the rabbit hole with a swashbuckling crew, ages 6-12.
  • On Wednesday, April 22, we will celebrate the staff members who meet you where you are, and who share all the un-bee-lievable resources the library has to offer, during National Library Outreach Day. Join OCLS’ Professional Storytelling Troupe as they host Family Storytime at the Waterleigh Community Clubhouse. Bond, learn, and share the joy of reading with stories that bring families together.
  • And on Take Action for Libraries Day on Thursday, April 23, people across the country will rally in support of their local libraries. Send an email to your elected officials and tell them how much you value your library. Explore new reads to add your TBR list with the staff at the South Trail branch in To Be Read and take advantage of our diverse collection. Or put on your dancing boots and join staff at Fairview Shores for Line Dancing for Seniors.

It all culminates with a thrilling evening at the 19th Annual Southwest Author Series on Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m. with bestselling author Tess Gerritsen. She’ll discuss her work, her influences and her new book, The Shadow Friends, the latest addition to her hugely popular ‘The Martini Club’ series.  Read more from the author herself in her blog, “What lies ahead for “The Martini Club?” later this week!

And remember to stick to our OCLS social media channels all week long for all the buzz-worthy library content.
