Cool Library Fun for Hot Summer Months
Summer is always an exciting time at the library and it’s been rewarding to see people of all ages participating in summer reading and enjoying Summer at Your Library events and programming. This month is filled with activities to break up the heat of July and keep your brain and body active. Head to your favorite library location to take advantage of free summer fun and learning.
Encourage the kids in your life to keep reading everyday; we’re excited to have a record number of youth participating in our summer reading challenge. Youth ages 0–18 have until July 26 to complete 30 days of reading, turn in the grand prize entry page from their reading tracker and pick up a free goody bag, while supplies last. And don’t forget to register kids for one of our End of Summer Celebrations happening July 20–25. Every OCLS location will have fun activities and frozen treats to close out our best summer yet!
Visit ocls.org/summer for all the details about the reading challenge, summer events, End of Summer Celebrations and more.
Summer is also the perfect time to try out a new hobby, and your library offers unmatched value for exploring creative pursuits. We have opportunities for kids, teens and adults to learn sewing and knitting, game design, 3D printing, cooking – you name it. Our classes are free and our experts are ready to help you find your passion.
During July, we will also offer special programming to celebrate America 250, including hands-on art projects and history classes. And there’s no better time to dive into your own family history with genealogy programming offered in-person and online. Make a visit to West Oaks Branch and Genealogy Center for free, personalized genealogy research assistance and access to more than 30,000 genealogy books.
Don’t forget, your library is a one-stop shop for summer activities, no matter your style. Whether you want to enhance your staycation with budget-friendly free events and activities, or stock up on e-books and audiobooks at no cost for a long-haul flight, we’ve got you covered.
