An Interview with Koo Koo Kanga Roo

Koo Koo Kanga Roo

Koo Koo Kanga Roo is a band/comedy duo/workout franchise consisting of vocalists Bryan Atchison and Neil Olstad, who are on this planet to make you dance while laughing so hard that milk comes out of your nose.

Erin: How did Bryan and Neil meet?

Bryan: We were college roommates and were in another band together.

E: Koo Koo Kanga Roo… that’s quite a name – how did you choose it?

B: It was just on a long list of ideas and it sounded memorable. At the time we didn’t know what the band was, could have been thrash metal.

E: Your songs rock! Where do you find inspiration?

B: Thanks! Depends on the song. Some songs we create because we make themes for ourselves, like the new Holiday record "Celebrate This!" or the "Gross" album about potty humor. Other ones we just do if we think they are goofy enough to make the cut. Lots of food though. Food is good.

E: How often do you practice your sweet dance moves?

B: We don’t really practice. That’s the best part of being in an iPod band. We practice the moves a few times when we create them, then just go for it. Also, if we are too precise in our moves it will make people feel like they can’t do them too. We like to keep it loose. I’ve never watched a pop star on an awards show and said, “Whoa, I can do that.” But thanks for saying they are sweet moves. This interview is full of compliments.

E: What’s next for Koo Koo Kanga Roo?

B: Tons more videos, finishing the holiday record. Big tour in the fall. A few trips to the UK and beyond that it’s up to some good luck. And of course, visiting Orlando for three awesome concerts!
