Let’s journey into outer space this week!
QUESTIONS:
- Do you want to go to outer space?
- How should we get there?
- What do you think we’ll see?
READ:
Any book on space, planets, or aliens that you may have! Or you can request a physical title such as Your Alien by Tammi Sauer or a digital one such as I Heart Pluto by Chris Ferrie from the library.
SING:
A fun song to sing is Zoom Zoom Zoom, We’re Going To The Moon. Pretend to be a rocket ship and jump up after counting down to one!
Zoom, zoom, zoom we’re going to the moon
Zoom, zoom, zoom we’re going to the moon
If you want to take a trip, climb aboard my rocket ship
Zoom, zoom, zoom we’re going to the moon

WATCH:
Want to learn about the planets? Hear about them in a fun song with Blue’s Clues & You.
MOVE:
Do you know the popular rhyme Teddy Bear Teddy Bear Turn Around? Let’s try Astronaut, Astronaut Turn Around!
Astronaut, astronaut turn around
Astronaut, astronaut touch the ground
Astronaut, astronaut run in place
Astronaut, astronaut reach up to space
Astronaut, astronaut touch your feet
Astronaut, astronaut take a seat
CREATE:
Make a paper mache planet!
Materials Needed: a balloon, water, glue, paint brush and newspaper
Blow up a balloon. Rip up the newspaper into strips. Mix equal parts water and glue together. Now, paint the balloon with the glue mixture, and place the newspaper onto it as you go. Paint over the newspaper and add more. Make it strong. Allow it to dry overnight. The next day, you can paint it any way you’d like to create your own planet.
MAKE YOUR OWN SPACE BOOK:
- Staple papers together and have each page represent a different planet.
- Write (or have your child write) each planet’s name. (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mart, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune).
- Illustrate! Draw or cut out pictures for each page. Make up your own planet if you’d like!
