Preschool Fun: Space!

Let’s journey into outer space this week!

QUESTIONS:

  • Do you want to go to outer space? 
  • How should we get there? 
  • What do you think we’ll see?

READ:

Any book on space, planets, or aliens that you may have! Or you can request a physical title such as Your Alien by Tammi Sauer or a digital one such as I Heart Pluto by Chris Ferrie from the library.

  

SING:

A fun song to sing is Zoom Zoom Zoom, We’re Going To The Moon. Pretend to be a rocket ship and jump up after counting down to one!

If you want to take a trip, climb aboard my rocket ship

CREATE:

Make a paper mache planet!

Materials Needed: a balloon, water, glue, paint brush and newspaper

Blow up a balloon. Rip up the newspaper into strips. Mix equal parts water and glue together. Now, paint the balloon with the glue mixture, and place the newspaper onto it as you go. Paint over the newspaper and add more. Make it strong. Allow it to dry overnight. The next day, you can paint it any way you’d like to create your own planet.

 

MAKE YOUR OWN SPACE BOOK:

  • Staple papers together and have each page represent a different planet.
  • Write (or have your child write) each planet’s name. (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mart, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune).
  • Illustrate! Draw or cut out pictures for each page. Make up your own planet if you’d like!

Thanksgiving Closure

Orange County Library System will be closed starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27 and remain closed through Friday, November 29 in observance of Thanksgiving. The library system will resume normal business hours on Saturday, November 30. Learn more about library closures >

Upcoming Southwest Branch Closure

Southwest Branch will be closed Monday, December 2 through Thursday, December 5 for replacement of the HVAC system. The book drop will remain open. We plan to reopen for normal business hours on Friday, December 6.
