Your Library Offers Unexpected Events and Experiences
Registration has opened for Summer at Your Library. From June 1 through July 27, we have special events and programs for all ages at our 15 locations and at pop-up locations across the county. This year’s theme is “Color Our World” and the library has an array of events – from bilingual comedy shows to science and magic – to fill your summer days with fun. Reading has never been more rewarding when adults and kids join our Summer Reading Challenge! Stop by any of our 15 locations and pick up a paper reading tracker or download the Beanstack app to log your reading minutes this summer to enter a drawing for fun prizes. Learn more about events, programs and our reading challenges at ocls.org/summer.
All month long we are celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. On Monday, May 12, join artist Jojo Liu for the virtual Chinese Painting Basics program and explore the basics of Chinese painting. On Thursday, May 15, kids can make their own zen garden at Eatonville Branch. The Kung Fu Show presented by Wah Lum Kung Fu Temple is back and not to be missed at Orlando Public Library Saturday, May 31, at 1 p.m.
If you’re a fan of intergalactic adventures, check out our Star Wars events May 1–7. Science activities, special-effects workshops, gaming and art programs all centered on the iconic film series and characters are happening across our system all week for all ages.
Our daylong celebration of books, the Orlando Book Festival, is Saturday, May 17, and we are excited to have #1 New York Times bestselling author Brad Meltzer as the keynote speaker. Whether you’re a fan of nonfiction, political thrillers, inspirational children’s biographies or the Justice League, you’re sure to find Brad’s talk engaging. Panels and workshops throughout the day will feature writers from across the state. I hope you’ll join us for this exciting day of events.
Your library has resources, classes and events sure to inspire you. Whether you prefer to connect in-person or online, walk into a branch or visit ocls.org to learn more.
