Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street? This week, inspired by the library’s weekly Sesame Street Storytime, we’re celebrating our favorite Muppets!
These activities are based on Every Child Ready to Read, which helps our friends learn pre-reading skills. We’ll cover Reading, Writing, Talking, Singing and Playing.
TALKING:
- Who is your favorite Sesame Street friend?
- What color is Elmo?
- What kind of animal is Big Bird?
- Is Oscar happy or grouchy?
- What language does Rosita speak?
- Who is Ernie’s best friend?
READING:
Read any Sesame Street book you have! If you don’t have one, request one from the library, such as Love From Sesame Street; Just One You; or We’re Different, We’re the Same. We’ll also make a book at the end.
SINGING:
We all know Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes. Let’s sing Abby’s version!

Do it several times! Try again super fast. Then try super slow.
PLAYING:
A great segment on Sesame Street is Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck. Play with food (read or fake) and make your own menu! Use Play-doh to mold fake food. Use toy food and make a full dinner. Or, get creative and bake cookies from scratch!
VIDEO:
There are many official Sesame Street videos online. Check them out! My favorite is Elmo’s Ducks from the Elmo’s Sing Along Series. Cut out ducks and sing along with the video.
WRITING:
Make your own Sesame Street book! Sesame Street is all about learning your letters and numbers. Make a letter book for your child’s name. Each page will have a different letter.
- Staple papers together.
- Have each page represent a different letter of the name. (So, mine would be 6 pages: L-A-U-R-E-N.)
- Illustrate! Draw or cut out pictures that start with the letter for each page.
