Your Library Offers Unlimited Value in the New Year

Welcome to a new year with your library! January is a time to look ahead and plan for a successful year, and your OCLS library card can help you do just that – often in surprising, money-saving ways.

If you’re paying for newspapers, magazines, audiobooks or e-books, the library can help you save money on those costly subscriptions. Your library card gives you free digital access to the Orlando Sentinel, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Economist, The New Yorker and dozens more newspapers and magazines available at ocls.org. You can also enjoy endless e-books and audiobooks through Libby, Hoopla and Freading, without spending a dime on Amazon or Audible.

Stream music, movies and TV shows ad-free on your phone, computer or TV with Kanopy, Hoopla and Freegal Music. Your OCLS card gives you free access to LinkedIn Learning with dozens of professional certificate programs, continuing education credits and classes on nearly any business topic you can imagine. Check out LearningExpress for career-development resources for adults and college test prep and practice tests for students. Do you know a student who needs extra help? Brainfuse offers live online tutors available everyday for academic support, writing labs and interactive skills-building lessons. Explore all the value your library offers online at ocls.org.

Your library has even more value in person! We have so many great events and programs at our 15 locations and in the community. January 7 marks the 134th birthday of Zora Neale Hurston and we are celebrating her life, scholarship and legacy in literature throughout the month, culminating with Zora! Education Day at our Eatonville Branch on January 30. Read all the details, including an interview with author Dhonielle Clayton, on pages 18 and 19 of our January issue of Books & Beyond.

Tickets are still available for An Evening With Author Nicholas Sparks January 17 at the Dr. Phillips Center. Don’t miss the chance to hear from one of the world’s most beloved storytellers at this once-in-a-lifetime event.

If your children love animals, be sure to check out Tales From the Farm, presented by the Central Florida Fair, January 13–27. Families can enjoy themed stories, meet a farm animal and receive a free student ticket to the fair – an experience everyone will enjoy.

As we begin this new year at OCLS, we remain committed to finding innovative ways to increase the value you receive from your library. We look forward to all the ways we can support your learning, creativity and connection in the months ahead.
