It’s well known that Mark Twain once said that the secret to getting ahead is getting started. But how do you even get started if you don’t know where to begin?
One good place to start would be the library.
Say your goal is to build your savings so you can buy a new home or retire early. You know you need to develop new strategies for managing money, but where can you learn them? You can sign up for our six-week series, Personal Finance Using Morningstar, which shows you how to budget, invest and make the most of the free Morningstar resources available to library cardholders.
Do you have a personal goal to learn a second language to help you get ahead in the job market? We can help you get started there, too. Basic Spanish classes begin at our North Orange Branch this month, and Spanish from Zero happens at our Southeast Branch, or to find out about online language-learning resources, visit ocls.info/language.
For our youngest customers, we are always looking for ways to help them get a head start in life. That’s why we’re excited to announce that we’re expanding our programs that help kids learn basic skills needed to succeed in business. We’re already taking applications for our annual Children’s Business Fair, where young entrepreneurs can market and sell their products and business ideas, and in Spring 2020, we’ll launch a series of BizKids Clubs, which will teach kids to learn to write a business plan, market products, promote their ideas and run a storefront.
All of these resources, and so many more, are free for library cardholders. If you have a card, don’t delay – stop by your local branch or visit ocls.info to find out how the library can help you reach your goals. Don’t have a card? Well, there’s no better time than now to sign up or renew. It’s free and easy, and you can do it in person or online. Bring a friend to sign up for a card in September and we’ll even enter you in a prize drawing in honor of National Library Card Sign-up Month.
