The Summer Reading Program Has Begun!

SRP 2017

The Kids Summer Reading Program is officially in full swing thanks to the help of Koo Koo Kanga Roo and Mix 105.1!

On Saturday, June 3, the downtown library and the Southeast Branch got the party started by hosting summer kickoff events. Koo Koo Kanga Roo drove 300 attendees “Koo Koo” as they put on an incredibly energetic and fun performance. With songs like “Cat Party,” “Dinosaur Stomp,” and “No Crust,” no one could rest singing and dancing along to their crazy tunes. As a special treat, Orange County cardholders were given VIP status for pre-registering for the event and enjoyed a front row experience during the concert. At the end of the concert, Koo Koo Kanga Roo posed for photos and selfies with the families and teachers in attendance. Fans came from all over the state to hang out with the eccentric band. Bryan and Neil of Koo Koo Kanga Roo kept bouncing around Central Florida with a show at the South Creek Branch on Sunday, June 4 and a final performance at the Chickasaw Branch on Monday, June 5. If you were not able to attend, check out their performance from last year here!

Mix 105.1 FM brought the party to the library for the Celebrate Summer with Mix 105.1 event at the Southeast Branch on Saturday, June 3 and the Winter Garden Branch on Monday, June 5.  DJ Adam enthralled the crowds with music, games and prizes.  The most popular of the games were the hula hoop competition, a freeze dance and trivia. Not only did DJ Adam bring the party, he also brought along a few of his friends. A knight and princess from Medieval Times took part in a story time and crowned the audience with paper crowns. Families had a blast kicking off the summer, but Mix 105.1 is not stopping there. They have a whole lineup scheduled at various OCLS branches all summer long! See if they are coming to your local library!
