Women’s History is Our History

March is Women’s History Month and what better place than your library to discover and celebrate the stories of great women all month long. This year’s theme is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations.” OCLS is a treasury of resources – if you want to chat about a new author, dive deep into learning about women in science, create an inspired craft or engage with women artists in Central Florida, there’s a program or event for every age and interest.

On March 8, vocalist Shannon Rae performs a concert that will appeal to all generations and have you singing along as part of Music in the Library. Caregivers with toddlers can explore the common empowering qualities of well-known women like Simone Biles, Frida Kahlo and Jane Goodall at Pow-HER-ful: Celebrate Women’s History Month programs at Fairview, Washington Park and Southeast branches. And everyone can test their women’s history knowledge and at Trivia Mania at Southeast Branch on March 21.

This year marks 15 years of collaboration between OCLS and Women in the Arts, Inc. The non-profit organization recognizes the work of women artists and brings art education to the community. On March 29, the Women in the Arts Expo at Orlando Public Library brings together a remarkable group of women leaders in our arts community for a panel discussion on issues and opportunities for Central Florida artists. You can learn more and read an interview with the founder of Women in the Arts, Maria Guerrero, in the March issue of Books & Beyond and the full interview on our blog.

Experience art in a different form on March 22 during LEGOpalooza at Orlando Public Library. With building contests, displays, a brick pit and LEGO VR, whether you’re a LEGO master builder or just starting your journey, there’s something for everyone. Learn more about this unique event and register for the OCLS LEGO contest at ocls.org/legopalooza.

Whatever your interests, we welcome you to explore the programs and services we offer both virtually and in-person.
