June is usually one of the busiest months at the library. Our annual Summer Reading Program is underway, and families flock to our locations to attend performances, bring their kids to one of our camps, and attend programs for young and old.
This year, COVID-19 has required us to rethink the way we operate, and we’ve decided not to host in-person activities this summer. Instead, we’re bringing the adventure home to you. This year, we’ll host a Virtual Summer Reading Program. Every Monday at 10 a.m., our YouTube channel will livestream a performer or storyteller for kids to enjoy, and every weekday beginning at 10 a.m., we’ll have virtual events for kids of all ages, all day long. That means craft activities, recipes, storytimes and more that you can enjoy from the comfort and safety from your own home. All you need to do to participate is find a program you’re interested in on our website and register. You’ll receive an email before the program begins with a link that will allow you to sign in when the program is ready to start.
We’re also planning reading challenges on Beanstack for kids and adults, and you can enter to win prizes just for reading 600 minutes or more.
You can still visit the library this summer – all of our locations are now open to the public, and every weekday, kids can pick up free lunches from the OCPS Mobile Lunch program at six library locations. But if you want to see FREE DAPS or watch your favorite storytellers inspire your kids, you can do that from home. Join us online every day.
